Description:
Italian composer Camilo Toni (1922-1993). He was an excellent teacher and was known for producing a succession of brilliant musicians. 18 years old, Toni composed his first piano piece, Serenata No. 1, Op. 10. This work marked a decisive turning point in his artistic development. Of course, being born in this era, even his early works were austere and influenced by Schoenberg's twelve-tone music. He first encountered Schoenberg's work when he was 19 years old. Among several pieces performed by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, the Op. 25 piece made a strong impression on Toni. He even goes so far as to say, "It was more akin to horror than fascination." He then expanded on this 12-tone system, adding his own ideas to create the unique music heard here. Naxos Japan
