Description:
David Lang (1957-), one of the founders of the cantaloupe label. This album features two works performed by the Los Angeles Master Chorale: "National Anthem," performed with the popular Colder Quartet in the United States, and "The Passion of the Match-Selling Girl" (world premiere as a complete work), which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2008. The piece consists of two songs. At first glance, the two works seem to deal with different themes, but Lang himself states, "I believe that the larger world of the nation and the smaller world of the little girl both have something in common about understanding each other and being aware of the suffering of those around us."
