Red Wine: 2019 | Laurent Ponsot | Griotte Chambertin Cuvee du Saule
Elegant wine. The nose is ripe, cool and restrained while featuring elegant aromas of overtly spicy and earthy red cherry liqueur and discreet newly turned earth nuances. There is fine concentration to the intense, palate staining and muscular flavors that also coat the mouth with dry extract while offering a superbly persistent finish that is quite firmly structured. This beautifully balanced and powerful effort is almost lilting and overall, this is quite simply terrific. Definitely worth tasting!

Reviews:
- Decanter: Ponsot has referred to Griotte as 'the Lolita of Grands Crus,' a reference to its seductive nature. He farms 1ha of the appellation's total 2.56ha and the results in 2019 were delicious, with expressive red and black fruit, and a hint of spice on the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh and silky, yet retains enough firm tannin to ensure that it will age gracefully for years. A wonderful balance for the vintage.
- Allen Meadows: Like the Latricires, the nose is ripe, cool and restrained while featuring elegant aromas of overtly spicy and earthy red cherry liqueur and discreet newly turned earth nuances. There is fine concentration to the intense, palate staining and muscular flavors that also coat the mouth with dry extract while offering a superbly persistent finish that is quite firmly structured. Producer Information
After 36 years at Domaine Ponsot, Laurent Ponsot left the family domaine in February of 2017 to pursue a new wine adventure. He is joined in this new endeavor by his son, Clment, whose excitement for winemaking is as strong as his own, while his other two children, Claire and Nicolas, also hold shares in the company. Embodying his pioneering spirit, the company is named after Laurent himself who values humility, respects nature, and enjoys above all else the great pleasure of winemaking. Laurents resolute quest for an alliance between history and innovation continues, and he will retain all of the fruits of his past research, such as the perfect closure, levage without sulfur but under neutral gas, temperature-controlled intelligent cases, and the protection of authenticity. Through these innovations, his goal, as always, will be to provide consummate, authentic examples of great Burgundy wines.
